Mission Statement :

St. Cyril of Alexandria School, with the support of parents and St. Cyril of Alexandria Parish, prepares our students spiritually, academically, and socially to take personal responsibility for a lifetime of learning, service, faith and leadership.

St. Cyril of Alexandria School is a Community Which Believes:

  • In Following our Lord, Jesus Christ
  • In the Uniqueness of Every Child
  • accolades In Strong Academics
  • In Parental Involvement
  • And in Service to One Another

Statement of Philosophy:

St. Cyril of Alexandria School is a community of faith which believes in the guidance of the Holy Spirit and is dedicated to providing quality education and to promoting a love for learning.

While the parents are the primary educators, the school shares with the parents the responsibility of developing a faith in God which is viable and meaningful in each child.  Faith is reflected through mutual respect for one another and recognition of the need to serve others.  The vision celebrates the personhood of each student and enables the student to grow intellectually, to fulfill each individual's potential and to recognize the child's self-worth, and to see life as a series of choices and changes.  Through self-reliance and self-discipline, the student is led to hope in the future and to live a successful and happy life based in a faith relationship with Jesus Christ and with his neighbor.

Such growth requires presenting and modeling spiritual instruction and values.  Recognizing individual needs as well as providing relevant curriculum is essential for academic excellence and for developing the skills needed in a contemporary society.  The experience of membership in the entire faith community, school, and parish leads to an awareness of the fellowship of the world community and challenges each person to respond to the spirit in his or her life.

Religious Education/Liturgy:

The religious program of St. Cyril of Alexandria School presents the central doctrines and morals of the Catholic faith.

A. Liturgy

Religion is taught in each grade and is reinforced by a weekly Liturgy and daily community prayer service. All classrooms take turns providing the lectors and gift bearers throughout the year. Preparing the theme is the responsibility of the teacher and the class whose turn it is to prepare the Liturgy.

When students attend Mass, they are required to wear a green or white St. Cyril shirt with a belt and something other than jeans. All students are to attend and show proper respect at all liturgies and paraliturgies throughout the year. Please check the school calendar for any exceptions to the normal Mass day.

B. Discipline with a Purpose

Discipline with a Purpose (DWP) is premised on the Catholic Christian beliefs of the inherent goodness and value of every person. Each student is a child of God and as His cherished creation, deserves our respect and consideration. For more info of DWP...

Academic Program / Departmentalization:

Being responsible and accountable for one's learning encourages independence and ownership of one's achievement. The instructional format at St. Cyril of Alexandria School incorporates a variety of teaching methods such as small/large group learning, individualized intruction and cooperative learning. This is carried out partly through the school's departmenatlized strucure.

There are five departments. The Kindergarten department is made of two self-contained classrooms. The Primary (1st and 2nd grade) and Intermediate (3rd and 4th grade) departments encompass three classrooms made up of two grade levels that travel from class to class. The Advanced Intermediate (5th and 6th grade) and Jr. High (7th and 8th grade) departments encompass four classrooms divided by grade level that travel from class to class. Each department also travels to Specialist teachers where they have classes in Spanish, music, P.E. and art.

Student Learning Expectations:

The students learn the skills to develop into active christians, life-long learners, effective communicators, responsible citizens and self-aware individuals. Learn about Student Learning Expectations...

Cougars With Character:

Now in its second year, the school is shaping the character of its population. St. Cyril School realizes the pressures students face in their youth; Cougars With Character is a program which strives to guide students in their decision making process. With the presence of a Cougar Store, students are able to "purchase" rewards with the merits they earn by demonstrating the pillars of character. Students focus on one trait each month. Watch the Cougars With Character kick-off from 2009-2010.
