Student Learning Expectations

Kindergartner-4th Grade Students are:

1. ACTIVE CHRISTIANS WHO:

a. show respect for God’s creation, self, family, and others
b. actively participate in Mass and Religion class to learn about faith
c. demonstrate appropriate behavior and positive leadership
d. serve others (bring in canned food, help at home, sing at nursing homes, etc.)
e. learn and say prayers

2. LIFE LONG LEARNERS WHO:

a. are enthusiastic about learning
b. demonstrate basic academic skills
c. are able to locate information
d. use self discipline in the classroom to learn
e. use problem solving and critical thinking skills to understand
f. follow new directions (flexible) when routine changes

3. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS WHO:

a. demonstrate what listening looks like and sounds like in order to use listening skills
b. learn to read, write, and speak correctly and effectively
c. ask appropriate questions
d. use technology
e. learn about and pays attention to body language (nonverbal language)

4. RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS WHO:

a. take responsibility for what they do and say
b. tell the truth, follow the rules, contribute to the community’s well-being
c. see each person as important in the community
d. work together to reach common goals
e. show positive leadership

5. SELF-AWARE INDIVIDUALS WHO:

a. see themselves and others as unique and talented
b. take pride in themselves and their efforts
c. set goals and reviews progress
d. participate in art activities (drama, drawing, painting, writing, singing, etc.)
e. have healthy eating habits and participates in a variety of activities

 

5th-8th Grade Students are:

1. ACTIVE CHRISTIANS WHO:

a. show respect for God, self, family, others, Church, authority, property and creation
b. demonstrate basic knowledge of the foundations of their faith and Catholic Church teachings
c. demonstrate a moral conscience by modeling good behavior
d. participate in service to the Church, family, school, and community
e. prepare and participate in liturgical celebrations and sacraments

2. LIFE LONG LEARNERS WHO:

a. demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning
b. demonstrate a solid foundation in the basics of all diocesan subject areas
c. develop research skills
d. employ self-discipline skills to achieve learning
e. apply a variety of problem solving and critical thinking strategies
f. adapt to the change within their environment

3. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS WHO:

a. demonstrate listening skills
b. read, write and speak correctly and effectively
c. ask appropriate questions
d. utilize technology
e. recognize, understand, and use nonverbal communication

4. RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS WHO:

a. take responsibility for their action
b. know and practice their basic civic responsibilities
c. recognize each person’s interdependence with their environment and the world
d. promote achievement of community goals
e. exhibit positive leadership
f. take responsibility for their action

5. SELF-AWARE INDIVIDUALS WHO:

a. understand, utilize and appreciate their uniqueness and talents and those of others
b. demonstrate positive self-esteem and motivation
c. set goals according to priorities and evaluate progress
d. demonstrate a working knowledge of the fine arts through creative expression
e. utilize opportunities to promote physical fitness and wellness
