***Ice Demystified ***
WELCOME!!! TO THE
WORLD OF WATER AND ICE! Water is odd when
it comes to one particular property - freezing. The solid form of most
substances is more dense than its liquid form, but not so with water!
Have you ever wondered why ice floats in water? Well, between water
molecules, there are weak bonds called HYDROGEN BONDS. Wanna learn
about hydrogen bonds? Well this site can help you understand them and
learn in a fun way! Look around and have fun! Gooooo water and ice!
HyDrOgEn
BoNd~~~ A bond formed between hydrogen and two other atoms. Since
hydrogen has only one electron, it can only form a covalent bond with
one atom. However, since hydrogen has low electron affinity, it tends
to stick to atoms with higher electron affinity. The hydrogen bond is
weaker than the covalent bond, but relatively strong compared to other
weak interactions.
