The Romans had huge
Architectural
feats. They had the Coliseum which was there best. It could
seat 50,000
people and was built in 72 AD. There are eight walls that hold up
the Coliseum
and its passages. Today the Coliseum isn’t all in one
piece. Over
time the coliseum has eroded and has fallen apart. It is now a
home to tourism.
When the Christian religion came into Rome the Coliseum became a place
for
Christian martyrdom. Martyrdom means death or punishment.
The Coliseum
was a place to kill the people that did not believe in the Christian
religion.
They would kill people by putting a lion into the ring with a
man. The stadium
would be full with Romans who would watch this. The lion would
chase the
man until it would eat him and then everyone in the stadium would leave
at the
end and cheer.
