Radon
Welcome to our webpage of Radon!

Radon-
A radioactive gas that is released by uranium, which is a substance found in soil and rock. Breathing in too much radon can damage lung cells and lead to lung cancer.

History:

The radium in the ground, which has existed since the earth was formed, slowly decomposes and releases the gas radon. The radon escapes from the ground and enters the environment. This natural process usually would produce no concerns. The trouble with the gas is that, in areas where the radium is present in the ground, there may be homes above this area, and the released radon can enter into cellars through cracks and holes in the foundations. The radon could then, if ventilation is inadequate, build up to very unhealthy levels.
