What is Y.G.?

What’s the buzz about Youth Group?  Never attended and want the low-down?  Well, strap on your seat belt and enjoy the ride.  Youth group is an organization aimed towards Junior High and High School students for education and socialization.  Students will build relationships with others and will be challenged weekly to explore their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  They are taught through drama, song, worship and community service projects.  More specifically, through the Word, that God and Jesus aren’t taboo but a very real and tangible testament in one’s life.

Youth Group has THREE major elements:

The FIRST element is geared toward the game competitor.

If you like high energy competition against other students, “I know your gonna dig this.”  Every week everyone attending group will participate in games that will challenge you physically and mentally.  Games that have you running around the room, rapidly moving from char to chair, working with your group or partner to be the last one standing.  Other games involve role play like charades.  Finally, there are organized games that include basketball, volleyball and soccer.  All of the games played during group have a spin designed to help build team unity and community between all who are participating.

The SECOND element of Youth Group is the time of discussion and prayer.

Discussion will involve smaller games to “drive a point home.” Once this point is reached discussion will take place within the large group or more commonly in smaller groups.  It all depends on how deep the Youth want to go with this.  Sometimes we have very serious discussions that may entail more one-on-one after group time.  We like to stress during these discussions, what is said here is confidential. Other times we have discussions on perhaps why Jesus was sent to die for us.

The THIRD element of Youth Group is outreach, service, retreats and social activities.

These events take place on days other than our regular meeting times on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Outreach is a way to show people that you have a relationship with God and that you express that.  XLT is a wonderful outreach event that takes place on the last Monday of each month and celebrates the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  As children of God we are called to do service for others.  We make food for the homeless, deliver Thanksgiving dinner to families who are less fortunate and help where needed.  Retreats are ways to “get away from it all” and reflect on things that you may need to change.  Some examples are the 30 hours of Hunger, L.A. Congress, Junior High Fest and Confirmation Retreats.  Social events are great!  We take part in things like Jammin’ for Jesus, Coffee House, Paintballing, Bowling lock-ins and much more.

So now you ask yourself, how do I get involved in St. Cyril Youth Group?

It is very easy.  The Junior High group meets every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  The High School group meets every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  So depending on your age come and join our group.  You can register at any meeting or click on the “Forms” link on the Youth page to download the JHS or HS registration form.  The reason you want to be registered is so that you receive calendars of events, upcoming activities and other various things that take part in our groups.  Now that the computer era has taken us over I use email to communicate a lot of the time.  So don’t be bashful. If you haven’t tried our groups come and experience it.  The possibility of Gods transformation in your life is evident.
