Saint Cyril School - Report of Positive Cases

November 8, 2021

Five COVID-19 positive cases were identified on our school campus on Monday, November 8th. Two of the cases were reported to the school, and due to the cases not being on campus, there is no possible exposure. Two cases were identified by rapid tests administered today at school in preparation for an upcoming field trip. These cases were immediately isolated, with very limited time this morning on campus. One additional case was asymptomatic, the student was on campus today, and due to exposure to a known case off campus was tested after the school day ended, a test that resulted in a positive case. Close contacts of the morning's cases have been notified. Retests may result in a different outcome, and parents will be notified if there is a change in status of those cases. Close contacts of the case reported this evening are being traced, and parents of the close contacts will be notified tomorrow morning.

Because of our mitigation protocols being strictly followed by everyone, we do not believe other children had close contact nor were exposed. Therefore, your child is welcome to continue attending in-person classes as scheduled.

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness that is spread through coughing, sneezing, and contact with nasal secretions, mucus or saliva from the mouth or throat of an infected person. Please watch for early signs and symptoms in everyone in your household, which may include:

  • Fever

  • Coughing

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Other symptoms: chills, body aches, sore throat, headache, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, and runny nose.

If you notice any of these symptoms with your child, please contact your health care provider. Then, please notify us as well. If these symptoms appear while your child is at school, she/he may be excluded from the group setting and you will be called to pick him/her up. For the safety of your family and the community, it is critical for you to take actions to reduce your risk of getting sick with COVID-19. You can take the following precautions to protect yourself from respiratory illnesses, such as COVID-19:

  • Practice physical distancing as much as possible, keeping 6 feet between yourself and others

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Take everyday preventive actions, including:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

  • If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

  • Avoid touching high-touch surfaces in public places – elevator buttons, door handles, handrails, handshaking with people, etc. Use a tissue or your sleeve to cover your hand or finger if you must touch something.

  • Avoid touching your face, nose, eyes, etc.

  • Clean and disinfect your personal area to remove germs: practice routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces (for example: tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, toilets, faucets, sinks & cell phones).

If you have any other questions, please follow up with your doctor.

Due to this increase in the number of positive cases, Saint Cyril School renews its emphasis on mitigation protocol. All students are encouraged to wear masks when indoors, all on campus are reminded of the requirement to maintain at least six feet of physical distancing unless in the classroom, monitor symptoms and stay home (and notify school) if experiencing symptoms, wash hands often, disinfect high-touch surfaces and discuss with your health care provider vaccination against Covid-19. Thank you for your cooperation.
